TEHRAN (CHN) -- Head of Visual Art Department of Iran's Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance announced that Iran will send 30 artists to the 56th International Art Exhibition of Venice.
Majid Molla Norouzi also said Iran's art has been presented in all leading international art events, and the private sector is supporting the process.
He said the department has begun the process of selecting and compiling the works, Mehr News Agency reported.
Underlining the importance of biennials in introducing the art of different countries, he said, "International media, museums, and galleries are taking part in such events. So we want Iranian art to be showcased in this biennial fully to represent an almost complete picture of Iran's contemporary art."
"We will have works from a number of artists from different fields and perspectives. Our criteria will be innovation and novelty," he added.
The 56th International Art Exhibition will run from May 9 to November 22. It is a major contemporary art exhibition that takes place once every two years in Venice.
Iran has attended the event in 2003, 2005, 2009 and 2011.
